Factors affecting the quality of work life of employees

One of the other managers of the Iran Standard & Quality Inspection Co. who can play an effective role in improving the quality of life of colleagues, especially in the work and welfare areas of colleagues, is Meysam Hajivi, the head of the support unit. For this reason, we took the opportunity of the World Quality Week to conduct an interview to examine the concept of quality in work life from his perspective.

Mr. Hajavi, could you please elaborate on how you evaluate the level of quality around you in terms of work life, social life, welfare facilities, etc.?
In response to this question, it seems to me that the level of quality in social life is satisfactory. I believe that, to provide welfare facilities, the procurement of necessary items should be accompanied by practical principles and sustainability. Additionally, regarding work life, I often focus on maintaining and improving the quality of the work environment. Considering my area of activity, I have also taken into account the procurement of quality items for my colleagues.

Similarly, how do you evaluate the quality of your performance and management in the workplace in relation to organizational tasks?

The pursuit of results – the importance of the company’s benefit and profit, as well as the sense of satisfaction that comes with achieving a goal or a project, have been goals that I have always been looking for, and in my opinion, I have been able to achieve relative success in achieving them so far.

In your opinion, how and to what extent can a manager influence the work and personal life quality of their subordinates, as well as their responsiveness and performance, through supervision or control?

A manager should properly fulfill the role of mentoring or guiding and effectively lead their subordinates. Especially in situations where this necessity is more pronounced, be a supportive member of their team to ensure that tasks progress in the right direction. Additionally, performance monitoring should be carried out systematically and methodically, accompanied by receiving continuous feedback from colleagues.

In your opinion, among the quality of equipment, workspace, management style, welfare facilities, colleagues’ behavior, proportional compensation to workload or working hours, and other factors, which one has the most significant impact on the quality of employees’ work life? What criteria will you not compromise on when choosing your workplace?

All of the factors mentioned have an impact on the effectiveness and efficiency of the work environment in some way. However, among these, compensation and benefits that are commensurate with the volume and variety of assigned responsibilities, as well as the work environment, can be considered very important factors for employees.

In the continuation of the answer, I should say that the work environment, the way coworkers interact with each other, and appropriate compensation and benefits are among the principles that I consider when choosing a place to work.

As a support unit manager, how do you evaluate the satisfaction of employees in that unit with your management style? Do you have any solutions for increasing job satisfaction among your colleagues?

The truth of the matter is that accurate information regarding the level of satisfaction of the subordinates with my management style is not available until now.

I am trying to survey my subordinates in the form of anonymous forms to identify strengths and weaknesses. In this regard, part of job satisfaction is related to salary and wages, which is partly under my control and to a large extent depends on the company’s rules. But in terms of the other part, which is related to the supportive role of the support manager, we need to identify the problems of the relevant staff during joint meetings with the colleagues of this unit, and look for solutions to solve them and increase their satisfaction.

And finally, regarding the improvement of quality in any field, especially the field of work and performance, do you have any suggestions for your peers in other units of the Iran Standard & Quality Inspection Co.?

I believe that quality improvement cannot happen without cooperation under the title of a family. When we have the feeling that everyone is in the same boat, moving towards a goal, we will definitely make positive things happen for both ourselves and the entire company. Also, if there is any criticism or suggestion regarding the performance of the unit, we must be open to criticism and look for a practical solution to solve the problem.
