The Head of Russia’s National Standards Organization and the Head of the Russian Accreditation Center visited Iran’s crash test center to expand testing and inspection cooperation between Iran and Russia.
The Head of Russia’s National Standards Organization visited Iran and toured the country’s only world-class vehicle crash test center.
During the visit, a meeting was held between the Russian delegation — consisting of the Head of the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology, the Head of the Federal Accreditation Service, and the Deputy Head of Standardization of Russia — and senior officials from Automotive Quality & Safety Tests Company (AQS), the Head of the National Accreditation Center of Iran, the Deputy Head of Quality Assessment of the National Standards Organization of Iran, along with accompanying representatives.
Anton Shalaev, Head of the Russian Federal Agency, referred to his previous visit to the emissions laboratory and stated: “Two years ago, this project was at the mock-up stage, and today it is truly gratifying to witness the commissioning of this center. This achievement clearly demonstrates the determination of our Iranian counterparts – whenever they decide to carry out a project, they pursue it through to completion.”
Shalaev also highlighted the memorandum of cooperation between ISQI and Russtandard and added: “The foundations for expanding joint activities between Iran and Russia are now stronger than ever. With the inauguration of a modern crash test center in this country, we expect that in the near future we will witness cooperation in conducting vehicle tests in accordance with shared standards, as well as enhanced collaboration with the National Standards Organization of Iran.”
Saeed Tajik, Chairman of the Board of AQS, welcomed the Russian delegation and their accompanying team, expressing the crash test center’s readiness for international cooperation. He stated: “In addition to obtaining ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation from Iran’s accreditation body, the AQS Crash Test Center is prepared, if necessary, to seek accreditation from the Russian accreditation authority in order to provide international testing services.”
During the visit, different sections of the crash test facility were toured, and a live crash test was conducted in the presence of the delegation. It was noted that currently three crash test standards have been made mandatory in Iran. The equipment required to perform two additional crash tests is also available at the center, and the center is prepared to conduct them once they become mandatory by the government.
He also referred to the establishment of the IRNCAP framework within the Road Safety Commission, describing it as an effective initiative for implementing certain non-mandatory and incentive-based standards for automakers. This approach was regarded by Mr. Shalaev as a forward-looking and necessary model that could also be beneficial for Russia.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the symbolic ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation certificate was formally presented by the Head of the National Accreditation Center of Iran (NACI), in the presence of the Head of the Russian Accreditation Center, to the CEO of Automotive Quality & Safety Tests Company (AQS).
