УАЗ Begins Using Russian Emergency Call Devices Made by NAMI

Moscow, Russia — Russian automotive research institute NAMI has announced that the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant (УАЗ) has begun equipping its vehicles with over 20,000 Russian‑made emergency call devices (УВЭОС) developed by NAMI.

These devices, now installed directly on the production line of УАЗ vehicles, support advanced telematics functions — including automatic accident notification and connection to emergency services — without relying on imported components.

According to company representatives, the NAMI‑produced devices have shown high reliability in validation, certification, and endurance testing as part of the vehicle’s electronic and safety systems.

NAMI’s emergency call units provide functions such as:

  • Automatic transmission of vehicle location and incident data via cellular‑network communication
  • Voice and digital communication with emergency services
  • GPS positioning for accurate crash location reporting
  • Remote vehicle functions such as engine start (where supported)

These systems are designed to work with ЭРА‑ГЛОНАСС, Russia’s national emergency response system, which has been required in all vehicles sold in Russia since 2017.

This deployment represents a significant milestone in Russian‑made automotive safety technology, showing how domestically developed emergency communication systems are being integrated into mass‑produced vehicles and contributing to improved road safety infrastructure.
