ISQI Project Manager Reports on Technical Inspection at Karun Petrochemical Complex

During the major overhaul of Karun Petrochemical Complex, the technical inspection team from Iran Standard & Quality Inspection Co. (ISQI) carried out an inspection of tank T-36823, focusing on the rubber lining of the floor and shell as well as the coating and paint condition.

Mohammad Gholami, the project manager, provided a detailed report outlining the objectives and findings of this inspection.

He explained the importance of rubber lining, noting:

“Rubber lining, as a protective elastomer layer, is installed inside tanks and process equipment to prevent corrosion of the base metal caused by aggressive chemicals. This coating increases the service life of equipment, prevents process leakage or contamination, and reduces maintenance costs and production downtime.”

Gholami continued: “Several key aspects were examined during this inspection, including the adhesion and uniformity of the lining on the tank floor and walls, identification of blistering, tearing, and delamination, measurement of rubber layer thickness, and Technical Inspection of seams, edges, and nozzles for any damage or corrosion.”

The project manager also referred to the specialized equipment used in the process, adding: “We used a Holiday Detector to identify surface defects, a Thickness Gauge to measure lining thickness, an Adhesion Tester to evaluate bonding strength to the metal substrate, and various visual inspection tools such as lamps, mirrors, and industrial cameras.”

Gholami described the inspection results as positive: “Based on our findings, the overall condition of the tank’s floor and shell lining was assessed as satisfactory, though a few localized areas were identified as requiring minor repair.”

He concluded by noting that the final inspection report and corrective recommendations have been submitted to the client: “We hope that these measures will contribute to improving and enhancing the operational safety and reliability of production processes at Karun Petrochemical Complex.”
