Is The Use of Sports Rims Harmful to The Car?

Usually, young people are fans of sports rims and tend to replace their standard car rims with sports models.

In general, automobile factories use two types of steel and aluminum alloy rims in their cars. Aluminum metal is a very suitable choice for automobile companies due to its high malleability and light weight. The aluminum alloy rim has high durability and strength, and at high speeds, it has a good resistance to blows to the rim. In contrast, non-alloy aluminum rims are less durable and can even be dangerous. Therefore, many automobile factories use magnesium and carbon in their rims to reduce the weight of the rim in addition to providing sufficient strength.

The price of these rims is much higher than steel models. So you have to pay more to buy these rims.

Remember that the fabric rim of each car is standard for it and it is better not to change it. But you can increase the car rim or tire up to one size or finally two sizes. This rim size change, if engineered and done correctly, can increase the acceleration and better handling of the car. But it increases the car’s fuel consumption.

How Much Can The Rim Size Be Changed?

Usually, if you increase the size of the rim by more than one or two sizes, it will cause certain damage to the car.

Does Changing The Car Rim Size Increase The Car’s Speed?

Unfortunately, the common belief among people is that the bigger the rim and tire size, the faster the car will go. But this belief is wrong. By increasing the tire width and rim size, the acceleration and speed of the car decreases, and the increased fuel consumption of the car, as a result, leads to an increase in emissions. The use of tires with a large width and low height, especially on the bumpy and uneven streets of our country, causes a lot of damage to the car.

Where Are Larger Rims Used?

Larger rims are used more for racing and on smooth roads and tracks, especially if the car’s engine is boosted.

What Are The Advantages of Aluminum Alloy Rims?

Apart from the beauty of the car, alloy wheels have more advantages. Alloy wheels are lighter and stronger than steel wheels. The weight of the rims is important because it affects the vehicle’s road handling ability. Lighter wheels reduce road shock and torsional forces. Alloy rims give better response to vehicles.

Lighter wheels increase braking control and vehicle handling. Alloy rims reduce brake pad wear and tear. In most aluminum alloy rims, especially those with very few spokes, they provide more air to cool the brake pads.

What Are The Disadvantages of Aluminum Alloy Rims?

The damages caused by the non-standard change of car rims are:

Increased bumping on bumps, steering stiffness, increased car fuel consumption as a result of increased emissions, pressure on the suspension system, tires and other components related to the front of the car, which will eventually increase the depreciation of the car.

In some cases, changing the rim size causes an error in the odometer and a disruption in gear shifting in automatic cars.
