Chemistry and Catalyst Laboratory

Chemistry and Catalyst Laboratory

This laboratory was established in 2023 with the aim of monitoring the quality of vehicle emission-reduction components. Utilizing advanced equipment, it provides specialized services in performance testing and characterization of catalytic converters and is ready to cooperate with all manufacturers, importers, and research and development centers for automotive catalysts. In addition, successful completion of specialized assessments, fulfillment of technical and quality requirements, and obtaining an accredited laboratory certificate from the Department of Environment in the field of stationary sources (analysis of heavy metals in wastewater) are among the other advantages of this laboratory.

Laboratory Test Titles:

Considering the importance of the proper performance of catalytic converters, the Chemistry and Catalyst Laboratory, utilizing advanced equipment and standard methods, provides the following specialized tests in two sections: specification and performance.

1) Precious Metals Analysis:

  • Determination of platinum, palladium, and rhodium in automotive catalytic converters using the Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometry (ICP-OES) method in accordance with PSA D40 5350 and INSO 23212 standards

Determination of Precious Metals in Catalytic Converters by Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP)

2) Artificial Aging:

  • Artificial aging of automotive catalytic converters in accordance with PSA D17 5367
  • Simulation of operating conditions equivalent to mileage accumulation, based on catalyst emission standards, in a laboratory environment, in accordance with PSA-D175367 and R83
  • Capability to create Bad Limit and Borderline conditions for OBD (On-Board Diagnostic) tests and to assess changes in catalytic activity after long-term operation
  • Capability to validate the component in order to confirm the defined service life of the component on the vehicle

3) Washcoat Adhesion:

  • Measurement of washcoat adhesion in catalytic converters in accordance with INSO 23212 and KES T-L502 standards

Washcoat Adhesion Test for Monolithic Catalysts

  • Assessment of the resistance of the catalytic coating at high temperatures based on the national catalyst standard

4) Thermal Shock:

  • Thermal shock in accordance with B22 3215
  • Evaluation of catalyst resistance to sudden temperature changes in accordance with B22 3215

5) Pressure Drop:

  • Measurement of pressure drop in catalytic converters and precise measurement of the pressure drop created in the exhaust system based on National Catalyst Standard 23212
