Rope Access Inspection
### 1. Service Introduction
Iran Standard and Quality Inspection Company (ISQI) provides technical inspection and non-destructive testing services at heights and in hard-to-access areas using rope access techniques.
This method, under suitable conditions, provides access to surfaces and components for which the use of scaffolding or other conventional methods is difficult, time-consuming, or limited. The selection of rope access is made after reviewing site conditions, assessing hazards, and determining the feasibility of safely carrying out the operation.
Rope access is a means of providing access; the validity of inspection results still depends on the inspector’s competence, the testing method, surface condition, and compliance with technical requirements.
### 2. Scope of Services
| Initial site assessment and feasibility study for carrying out rope access inspection |
| Determining inspection points and areas |
| Access planning and coordination with the Operations and HSE departments |
| Visual inspection of accessible surfaces, connections, and components |
| Thickness measurement at elevated or hard-to-access points |
| Assessment of corrosion and thickness reduction |
| Inspection of welds and connections at height |
| Performing non-destructive tests that can be carried out under site conditions |
| Examination of the apparent condition of accessible coatings, insulation, and supporting components |
| Recording images and documenting defect locations |
| Preparing technical reports and recommendations for further inspection or assessment |
### 3. Execution Requirements and Specialized Methods
The implementation of these services requires simultaneous consideration of access, safety, and inspection quality requirements.
| Requirement or Activity | Execution Considerations |
| Risk Assessment | Assessing fall hazards, falling objects, and operational environment hazards |
| Access Plan | Determining routes, anchor points, and the arrangement of rope systems |
| Rescue Plan | Providing rescue methods, personnel, and equipment appropriate to the site |
| Personnel Competence | Verifying rope access competence and independent inspection or NDT qualifications |
| Equipment Control | Inspecting rope access equipment and recording the required checks |
| Area Securing | Controlling access and managing the risk of falling tools and components |
| Visual Inspection and Image Recording | Documenting the condition of components and the location of defects |
| Thickness Measurement and Local NDT | Performing tests where the surface, access, and testing conditions are suitable |
| Environmental Condition Control | Assessing wind, temperature, weather conditions, and process hazards |
Specialized testing at height is performed only when the technical requirements of the method and operational safety requirements can be met simultaneously.
### 4. Standards and Technical References
| ISO 22846 | Principles and requirements for the use of rope access systems |
| IRATA ICOP, where accepted in the project | Industrial rope access practice guidelines |
| Work-at-Height and site HSE requirements | Work permits, area protection, and hazard control |
| ASME BPVC Section V | Requirements for non-destructive testing, depending on the method |
| Relevant ISO / EN standards for NDT | Requirements for test execution and relevant qualifications |
| Equipment inspection code | Criteria for evaluating and accepting results |
| Approved access procedure and rescue plan | Specific requirements for operations at the project site |
Reference to a rope access guideline does not constitute a claim of organizational membership or possession of a specific certification; such matters must be established based on valid documentation.
### 5. ISQI Experience and Technical Expertise
In this service, technical inspection and non-destructive testing expertise are combined with specialized requirements for access at height.
The technical experience described in the file in the fields of equipment inspection, corrosion monitoring, and NDT provides the basis for the inspection component of this service. The composition of the execution team and rope access qualifications must be determined and controlled according to the conditions and scope of each project.
The basis for providing the service is:
Safe Access | Specialized Inspection | Traceable Documentation

### 8. ISQI Approach
In rope access inspection, reducing the need for scaffolding is only one of the potential benefits; the primary priority is to provide safe access without compromising inspection quality.
ISQI’s approach is based on selecting an access method appropriate to the project conditions, coordinating with operational requirements, and conducting inspections by qualified personnel. Where rope access is not safe or technically appropriate, an alternative method must be used.
