Vehicle Weights, Dimensions and Homologation Laboratory
The Weights and Dimensions Laboratory was established in 2020 with the aim of accurately measuring the mass and dimensions of vehicles.
Considering the requirement for vehicle mass measurement for conducting emissions tests, this measurement can be performed in the laboratory. Over time, and with the laboratory becoming equipped, the capability to conduct other vehicle homologation tests has also been provided.
The tests conducted in this laboratory are as follows:
1) Measurement of Vehicle Mass and Dimensions
This test is conducted to measure the mass and dimensions of passenger vehicles, goods vehicles, and semi-trailers for vehicle categories M1, M2, N1, and N2 in accordance with the standard.
2) Measurement of Vehicle Identification Plates
The standard for vehicle identification plates, under Iranian National Standard No. 23860-2, is one of the mandatory national standards concerning vehicles and motor vehicles. The purpose of this test is to examine and measure the specifications indicated on the identification plate and the identification number engraved on the vehicle, as well as their installation location, and to standardize them for all vehicles.
3) Measurement of the Installation Position of Rear Vehicle Plates
The standard for the installation space and securing of front and rear vehicle plates, under Iranian National Standard No. 23860-3, is one of the mandatory national standards concerning motor vehicles. The purpose of this test is to examine and measure the location for installing the registration plate and to standardize this space for all vehicles.

4) External Projections of M1 Passenger Vehicles in Accordance with INSO 6622
The standard for external projections, under Iranian National Standard No. 6622, is one of the mandatory national standards concerning M1 motor vehicles. The purpose is to reduce the risk or severity of physical injury to a person who, during an accident, comes into contact with the vehicle body or is dragged underneath it. This applies in both stationary and moving vehicle conditions.
5) Wheel Guards / Front Chassis Transverse Guard / Side and Rear Guards in Accordance with INSO 20161
The standard for determining the characteristics of wheel guards, under Iranian National Standard No. 20161, is one of the mandatory national standards concerning motor vehicles. The purpose is to determine the characteristics of wheel guards, including the characteristics and test methods, for M1 category motor vehicles.
6) Location and Identification of Manual Controls, Tell-Tales and Indicators for M and N Category Vehicles in Accordance with INSO 19073
The purpose of this test is to evaluate the safety and performance of the above-mentioned systems in the vehicle, the control of which contributes to improving the driving experience, increasing the driver’s reaction speed, and reducing human error.
7) Accessibility and Maneuverability in M and N Category Vehicles in Accordance with INSO 21473
The purpose of this test is to examine the following:
- Access distance and angle
- Field of vision
- Vehicle turning radius
- Ease of entry and exit for occupants
8) Installation of Tires on M, N, O Category Vehicles
ECE 324 R30 – EU 458
The purpose of this test is to examine the vehicle safety requirements concerning tire installation, tire type, and proper tire inflation pressure in accordance with the relevant standard.
9) Safety of Glass Installation in M, N, O Category Vehicles
ECE 324-R43
The purpose of this test is to examine the vehicle safety requirements concerning the installation of glass and the type of glass used in the vehicle, as well as to examine the appropriate inclination angle for the vehicle windshield in accordance with the relevant standard.
